Detailed Description
This is a straight 100% malted rye whiskey that was then finished in Caribbean Rum casks for a year and a half. That’s more than enough time to allow those barrels to impart the flavors of the rum they previously held. And in some respects, perhaps too much time.

Nose: Cane sugar, bananas, coconut and other tropical fruit stand out, with undertones of black pepper and hints of earth and grass.
Palate: Rye is the star of the show on the palate.
Finish: On the finish, slow sweetness, bananas, coffee and honey provide a balance to the more savory rye influences.
Distillery Information
Oppidan is a distillery based in Illinois that’s working on a purist model. Instead of blending grains that might “”hide”” behind each other, they set out to make a whiskey that follows the European single malt concept.
