In 2009, Highland Park 21 Year Old was named “World’s Best Single Malt Whisky.” Fast forward 10 years, and out Master Whisky Maker, Gordon Motion, finalled deemed a selection of 21 Year Old casks exceptional enough to match the quality of the original Highland Park 21 Year Old.Limited-batch release created from 15 hand-selected casks, split between 6 first-fill sherry season European oak casks, 4 first-fill sherry seasoned American oak casks and 5 refill casks.
Highland Park 21 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky Tasting Notes
Nose: The nose of the 21y is more complex as it adds fruity and heather honey aromas to the party.
Palate: This is a fine and complex taste with lots of different flavours.
Finish: Adds some sweet flavours (sugars) during the medium finish.
Distillery Information
Highland Park, one of only two distilleries in the Orkney Isles, is the world’s most northerly whisky distillery. It was founded in 1798 by Magnus Euson. Until it was licensed in 1825 its production was illicit and Euson was assisted in evading the excisemen by a kinsman who was a Kirk elder and hid the contraband under the pulpit. By the 1880s Highland Park had an established reputation and at one time both the King of Denmark and the Emperor of Russia declared it to be the finest whisky they had ever tasted.
