Detailed Description
Westward Whiskey Oregon Stout Cask — as you might imagine — begins with the signature Westward Single Malt Whiskey. We’ve been a fan of that dram for a while. And if you remember, it’s fermented with a floral Ale yeast, twice distilled in copper pot still and aged in heavily charred oak casks. But after a full maturation, this version is finished for another full year in barrels used to age Stout Ale from three local micro-breweries in the Portland area. This brings out more warm notes of roasted coffee and chocolate, and you can taste it all with the 45% ABV.
Westward Stout Cask Finish American Single Malt Whiskey Tasting Notes
Nose: Fragrant notes of exotic fruits, milk chocolate, espresso, orange zest, and fresh-baked bread greet your nose.
Palate: The flavor profile is somewhere in between Single Malt and Bourbon with notes of cocoa, warm nots, apricot, orange blossom honey, and a hint of sea salt.
Finish: The finish lingers with coffee notes and an aroma of the Stout.
Distillery Information
Situated along Distillery Row in Portland Oregon, Westward Distillery was founded in 2004 by Christian Krogstad. Krogstad began his career in the alcohol industry as a brewer — shortly after graduating from the Siebel Institute of Technology (the Siebel Institute is America’s oldest brewing academy), Krogstad began crafting beer at the Orchard Street Brewery in Washington. After Orchard Street, Krogstad worked at a vineyard for a number of years, before finally opening the doors to Westward Whiskey Distillery nearly ten years ago.
