Detailed Description
The majority of Oppidian whiskeys are fairly young, and their overall incredible quality and taste are a testament to the value of innovation over age statement. This two-year four-grain whiskey is crafted from 68% corn, 15% wheat, 9% rye and 9% malt. This is a blend of three 53 gallon Kelvin Cooperage #3 char barrels, filled between November 2015 and January 2016. You can expect notes of vanilla, malt, baking spice, and citrus, coming together in a smooth harmonious vanilla finish.
Oppidan Small Batch Four Grain Straight Bourbon Whiskey Tasting Notes
Nose: The aromas are dense with ripe fruits and florals — cherry, oranges, violets, along with grass and cinnamon toast.
Palate: The palate arrives with more red fruits before opening up with leather, cooked cream, vanilla, and baking spices.
Finish: Long and smooth with a pleasant after-aroma and a spicy kick.
Distillery Information
Oppidan is a distillery based in Illinois that’s working on a purist model. Instead of blending grains that might “”hide”” behind each other, they set out to make a whiskey that follows the European single malt concept.
