Detailed Description
The trend of experimentation seems to be ever more prevalent in young American whiskey brands and McKenzie is no exception. The mashbill is seemingly familiar (70% corn, 20% rye and 10% malted barley) however, the corn and rye are sourced from local area farmers. Then, after going through a double pot-still distillation, it is aged a minimum of 3 years in charred American oak.
McKenzie Bourbon Whiskey Tasting Notes
Nose: You’ll be greeted with a slight astringent zing upon first nosing that quickly opens up into a bouquet of lemon zest, white pepper, dried tangerine sweetness, and a hint of burnt sugary vanilla.
Palate: After a few sips this whiskey starts to sing with more lively citrus notes, even a note of bright green apple that later tappers off to a pleasant warming, buttery, dried fruit vibe with hints of cinnamon and cardamom.
Finish: A light-hearted and enjoyable dram, great for the spring and summer months ahead.
