Detailed Description
Most white “whiskey” (white lightning, moonshine, white dog) uses a base of corn or sugar, often resulting in what can be perceived as a “rough” tasting spirit. The Liberty Distillery, however, takes pride in creating an artisan spirit that has an amazing ‘mix-ability’ factor, with a clean and pure finish that is distinct and complex.
Railspur No 1 White Whiskey Tasting Notes
Nose: The nose is grassy and grainy, with sweet notes of plum and honey, plus a little cinnamon spiciness.
Palate: The flavor picks up on that spiciness, adding some pine in for good measure, but without losing the honeyed and fruity sweet side. Overall, the character here is crisp, but not harsh or sharp.
Finish: The finish is lengthy and pleasantly warm.
Distillery Information
New Liberty Distillery was founded in 2004 by Robert Cassell (formerly with Philadelphia Distilling) in Philadelphia, Pennsylva. Their building once served as a stable, and much of its architecture, including the horse stalls, have been preserved. The building now provides a home to our custom-made still, as well as the rick house where they barrel age their whiskey. In addition to the working distillery, they also feature a beautiful bar and tasting room where you can sample their whiskey and enjoy craft cocktails created by their in-house mixologist Sam. Their Heritage Collection and New Liberty whiskeys, spirits-related gifts, and other locally sourced products can be purchased in their retail space.
