Detailed Description
Jackford Gin is a premium, locally sourced, locally distilled spirit from the Stafford family, potato growers in county Wexford. As well as potatoes (grown on the family’s farm in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford.) and the customary juniper, this gin was crafted with botanicals including rosemary, liquorice root, angelica, black peppercorns, orris root, cassia bark, basil, gooseberries and bitter orange. Jackford hasn’t just created a delightful gin, however, but a number of cocktails that should ensure you fully enjoy the versatility of the spirit. There’s the Jackford Smash, which you can make by muddling 50ml of Jackford Potato Gin, 15ml of sugar syrup, 5ml of fresh lime juice and fresh basil into a shaker. Then shake, pour into glass, top it with crushed ice (and soda if needed) and garnish with a basil leaf. There’s also the wonderfully named Damn the Weather cocktail, which was created to make the most of those days when the rain is pouring down by indulging with a nice tipple. Simply put 35ml of Jackford Potato Gin, 15ml of sweet vermouth, 15ml of fresh orange juice and 10ml of Cointreau in a shaker, shake and then strain over ice into your glass. Garnish with orange twist and you’re good to go!
